The Layout of the courtyard
The courtyard on the north and south is 100 cubits long with 20 posts and 20 bronze bases. There are silver hooks and bands on the posts in order to secure the curtains. The west end is 50 cubits wide and has 10 posts with bases. The curtains are made from finely twisted linens and are 5 cubits wide. The east side is the entrance which is a total of 50 cubits wide. It has three posts and three bases on each side totaling 30 cubits of curtains. The Entrance is in the center of the east side with four posts and four bases. The curtain covering the entrance is 20 cubits long made of finely twisted linen embroidered with blue, purple and scarlet yarn.
Inside the courtyard is the Altar of Burnt Offerings and the Basin for Washing. The Altar of Burnt Offerings is made from Acacia wood. It is a square of three cubits high, five cubits long and five cubits wide. It has a horn at each corner which is one with the altar and the altar and horns are covered with bronze. All the utensils used are made of bronze: pots to remove the ashes, shovels, sprinkling bowls, meat forks and fire pans. The altar has a bronze grating with a ring at each of the four corners. The grate is positioned halfway the altar.
The Basin for Washing is also made of bronze. It is placed between the Tent of Meeting and the Altar of Burnt Offerings. It is there for the priests to wash their hands and feet each time prior to entering the Tent of Meeting, and prior to ministering at the altar. This was ordered so they would not die.
